Indebt Student was started by a third year law student at the University of Buffalo. It provides lots of information about the student problem in America. He also has an e-petition to Congress to take action to solve this growing problem.

The interesting thing about Indebt Student, is that the creator is soliciting donations to pay off his own debt. Crass? Perhaps. He does redeem himself a bit by promising as soon as he raises $20,000, half will go to pay off his own loans and the other half he will give as a scholarship to some needy student.

This is an interesting site and an interesting idea. If you don’t agree with his asking for money to pay off his student debt, I would at least visit his site for the information about student debt.

As founder of Indebt Student I just wanted to clarify that I am not just offering one scholarship when the contributions reach $20,000, but offering a $10,000 scholarship for every $20,000 increment. Also, I just wanted to comment that there are some major changes currently pending with the website. I am actively pursuing getting the website set up to eventually reach non-profit status. I plan on launching the new website, with a restructured ‘community scholarship’ program where 100% of the net proceeds of all donations are put towards scholarships for students, around the first of the year. I also plan to kick the new site off with a scholarship giveway so check back in the new year. In the mean time please sign the e-petition, we need to ban together.
