Kicking the soda habit

One of my goals this year is to go without soda. I am a habitual Diet Mt. Dew drinker. Everyday I would drink two 12 oz cans of the delicious caffeinated nectar. I’ve decided to call it quits. I’m looking for the benefits of living caffeine free like better sleep at night and not having to deal with crashes in the middle of the afternoon. Also, artificial sweeteners (like the kind in Mt. Dew.) kind of freak me out. I’m afraid I’m going to get cancer if I drink too much of the stuff. Lifehacker has a good post on kicking the caffeine habit.

One of the benefits to kicking the soda habit is saving money. I don’t have to buy a $3 twelve pack every week anymore. That should save us about $12 a month in groceries. Also, when my wife and I go out to eat, we’ll save $1.50 that I usually spend on soda. We usually go out to eat about two times a month, so that’s comes out to be about $3 a month in soda. Adding up what I save at the grocery store, I could save about $180 this year on soda. Very nice!
