Over at my other blog, Best Facebook Applications, I did a review of a really nifty Facebook application called Carpool. Carpool hooks you up with drivers or people looking for a ride. For example, say you’re at school and you need to get home for Christmas break. You can use the Carpool app to find someone who’s going your way and arrange a ride with them. You can also use the application to find reoccurring trips so you can carpool to school or work.
If you want to beat high gas prices, carpooling is the way to go. You can also feel good because you’re helping the environment by reducing your carbon footprint. Al Gore will be proud of you.

Hey there, I think this is a great idea and a step up from the ride boards during my college days. I’d just encourage everyone, especially women, to be careful and check out who they are getting rides with. At the very least make sure you verify a real last name, physical address and telephone number for the person and give it to your roommates and your family. It may seem paranoid, but I’d hate to see someone get into a bad situation - even if the driver seems nice on facebook and knows someone you know.
[…] Middle Class Dad : Well, you could save money and the environment with the carpool facebook application. […]
Trixie- Rideboards were the first thing I thought of when I saw this app. You’re right about being careful with whom you get rides with. I watched a news special the other night about a girl getting killed by some dude after getting a ride from a rideboard. Thanks for commenting! I hope to see you around these parts more often!
Great Idea. I definatly would ONLY recommend sharing a ride with 2 or more other people. Evn then, you must be careful because those two people could know each other even though they live at different places.
Otherwise, I think it is great to hear ideas about how to use faceboook etc for other purposes than meeting people to date.

There is a new facebook app called RideSearch that uses the free national carpool database over at ridesearch.com.. You should check it out and do a review. The best thing about this app is it already has 7,000+ people who use it from RideSearch.com
